Precast panels can be used to create structural load-bearing units, as shown here on this office building. The precast window walls become the perimeter structural-gravity support for the floors and roof. This design application totally eliminates the need for separate load bearing perimeter column and beam framing.

Many designers specify precast concrete components because of their structural flexibility. Design options include long clear spans or larger panels that reduce the number of columns or joints, saving time and material costs. Precast components are highly adaptive, easy to erect, and respond well to the demands of maneuvering on restricted sites such as this one. By removing the excessive interior columns associated with typical CIP construction, more unobstructed square footage is created for ease of interior build out.
